Overview of Program
The Doctor of Philosophy, D.Phil., is the Oxford equivalent of a PhD. Thanks to the breadth of research we carry out in the department, we offer DPhils over a very wide range of topics in Pharmacology from calcium signalling to cardiovascular pharmacology and neuropharmacology. On our DPhil programme, your research will be carried out at Oxford under the supervision of a member of academic staff. You will work in their research group on a project at the forefront of the subject, and at the end of your time with us you will produce a doctoral thesis that represents a significant advance in the field. You will become the world expert in your research area, and you will have demonstrated that you are an original and creative thinker capable of independent scientific work at a very high level.
If you are interested in joining us as a DPhil student, we strongly encourage you to look at our research pages to identify areas of interest to you. You should then contact individual members of academic staff whose research interests match yours. Selecting the correct research project is a hugely important first step, so we recommend that you contact potential supervisors directly to discuss possibilities before you apply for a place on our doctoral programme. You will find details of the department’s research on our web pages.
All students are members of colleges in the University of Oxford and have the opportunity to study alongside scholars from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines and live in a beautiful and historic city.
