I am interested in the mechanisms regulating arterial contractility and dilation. Vascular tone plays an important role in the regulation of blood flow and blood pressure in normal physiology and in a number of diseases including hypertension, diabetes and ischaemic diseases. My current research focuses on how calcium signalling in small arteries can control blood vessel diameter.

Recently, I have described how alternative splicing of VEGF-A can regulate blood vessel formation and affect the progression of infantile haemangioma, the most common neoplasm of infancy. I am now investigating how VEGF-A, which is elevated in a number of pathological conditions, can contribute to endothelial dysfunction and vascular diseases
