Jonathan Barker

Divisional Safety Officer (Pre-Clinical Departments, Medical Sciences Division)

I am the Divisional Safety Officer for the Pre-Clinical Departments of the Medical Sciences Division and I'm based in the Department of Pharmacology in the Science Area.

My role is to help Heads of Department fulfil their health and safety responsibilities and ensure compliance with University Safety Policies.  I work closely with both the Departmental Safety Officers (DSOs) and Laboratory Managers to help achieve this through safety inspections, reviewing risk assessments and local training.

I am a member of each department’s Departmental Safety Advisory Committee (DSAC) and Genetic Modification Safety Committee (GMSC).

I have close links with my colleagues in both the University Safety Office and the Occupational Health Service as well as my Divisional safety colleagues working on both the John Radcliffe Hospital and Old Road Campus sites.

I have a BSc. (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Warwick and I hold a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.  I am also a member of the Institute of Safety and Technology in Research.
