Dr Areej Abuhammad, who completed a DPhil in the Department in 2013, has been selected as one of fifteen international scientists to receive an International Rising Talent Award as part of the L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Programme.

Areej worked in the Department with Professor Edith Sim and is now Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Jordan. Her research focuses on protein structure for useful targets for drug discovery in disease.

The fifteen award winners in the Rising Talent category were selected from nearly 300 national and regional fellows already identified as part of the L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Programme. Areej holds a regional fellowship for Levant and Egypt.

The Awards will be presented during a ceremony, on 21 March in Paris, at the close of a Scientific Conference marking the 20th anniversary of the  L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Programme.
