Bethany Yining Ru

BSs Biochemistry

DPhil candidate

My current research explores on the roles of salt-inducible kinases (SIKs) in the regulation of sleep and circadian rhythms. This project integrates in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo techniques to study the underlying molecular and behaviorial mechanisms.

Before joining Oxford, I completed a double Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biochemistry and Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I was honored to receive the 2022 Maria Rebecca and Maureen Belletini Commencement Award (https://www.chemistry.ucla.edu/news/2022-undergraduate-student-commencement-awards/). I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Molly Fox's lab in the Department of Anthropology, focusing on socio-cultural experiences of Latino Americans and their effects on biological pathways of fetal development. We presented our work titled "Support and Pregnancy Wantedness in a Pregnant Immigrant Latina Cohort" at Undergraduate Reserach Week in 2020.
